The film industry plays a key role in the economy and drives a huge network of individuals, vendors, artists, creators, producers, and visionaries together to create the images and tell the stories that compose the very fabric of our culture. Idaho has incredible resources, in terms of locations and talent, that span an incredibly diverse geographical and cultural area.
We support the “Indie” and provide the same level of service to each account, whether we are quoting insurance for a student project or a large feature. Short term production insurance as well as annual DICE policies are available.
As-Of: June 2026 | Tax Credit: 5% refundable
Idaho offers a modest 5% refundable tax credit on qualified in-state production expenses. The refundable structure provides cash returns, but the 5% rate is among the lowest of any state with an active program. Idaho requires pre-certification and maintains annual funding allocations. The program has historically experienced inconsistencies, so verify current-year funding availability. Idaho’s primary appeal stems from natural landscapes: mountains, forests, rivers, diverse terrain suitable for outdoor-focused content, adventure narratives, and westerns. Local crew infrastructure is developing but remains less established than major hubs. Equipment rental is available in Boise but specialized equipment may require out-of-state sourcing. Idaho’s tax incentive program is less robust than neighboring states with higher rates. However, for productions where Idaho locations are creatively important—westerns, outdoor adventures, nature documentaries—the combination of natural location value and modest incentive can work. Idaho represents a location choice first, incentive support second.
Reference Dates: All information current as of June 2026. Film tax incentive programs change regularly. Verify current program details and funding availability with each state film office before finalizing location decisions. Please do your own research.
