Cast Insurance for Film & TV Productions

MovieInsure is a licensed film production insurance broker. Cast insurance is available through our Short-Term, DICE/Annual and Production Portfolio programs.

When a lead actor or your director can’t work, the whole production stops, but the bills don’t. Crew wages, location fees and equipment rentals keep running while you wait, reschedule or reshoot. Cast insurance is built to pay those extra costs.

What Cast Insurance Covers

Cast insurance (also called cast extra expense) covers the additional cost your production takes on when a covered cast member or director can’t perform because of:

• Accidental injury
• Sickness (requires medical exams, see below)
• Death
• Family bereavement

It can help pay for:

• Extra days of crew wages, location fees and equipment rentals while you wait
• Rescheduling the shoot
• Reshooting scenes that were already filmed

Who Is Covered

Cast insurance covers the people your production can’t go on without, usually the lead actors and the director. You name them when you apply. Limits can be set as a share of the production cost, with blanket options from 25% to 100% of gross production cost.

Medical Exams

If you want the policy to cover sickness, each covered cast member (and the director, if covered) needs a medical exam before coverage starts. Plan for this early in pre-production so the exams are done before the first shoot day.
