NORTH DAKOTA Tax Credits

As-Of: June 2026 | Tax Credit: NO STATE PROGRAM

North Dakota has no active statewide film tax incentive program as of June 2026. The state discontinued its previous program without reinstating statewide incentives. This represents significant limitation for productions considering North Dakota as location choice. North Dakota’s lack of state-level financial incentives means productions must budget full costs. North Dakota’s appeal as location would stem from distinctive character—Great Plains landscapes, prairies, open spaces, Midwest authenticity suitable for certain production types. Production costs would be among lowest nationally given the region’s lower labor and material costs. However, without state incentive support and with limited production infrastructure compared to established hubs, North Dakota is economically disadvantageous for most productions. The lack of established film infrastructure, crew base, and equipment rental options would create logistical challenges. Producers considering North Dakota should factor no state incentive into budgets and evaluate whether creative location requirements justify full production investment.
