MISSOURI Tax Credits

As-Of: June 2026 | Tax Credit: 30% non-refundable

Missouri offers 30% non-refundable tax credit on qualified in-state production expenses for all production types. The non-refundable structure limits practical value for single-project LLCs and out-of-state producers with minimal Missouri tax liability. Credits must offset direct Missouri state tax liability or be monetized through sale to other Missouri businesses—less efficient than refundable structures. The 30% rate is competitive, but the non-refundable mechanism reduces practical value by the effective discount required for credit sale. Missouri requires pre-certification and maintains annual funding allocations. Missouri’s locations include St. Louis’ distinctive architecture and urban character, natural landscapes along the Mississippi River, the Ozarks region, and diverse settings. Production costs are moderate-to-low. The combination of 30% credit rate and reasonable costs can create workable economics for productions with corporate presence capable of utilizing credits directly. For independent films without sufficient Missouri tax liability, the non-refundable structure creates practical disadvantage.
