Colorado has incredible resources, in terms of locations and talent, that span an incredibly diverse geographical and cultural area.

COLORADO Tax Credits

As-Of: June 2026 | Tax Credit: 20% refundable

Colorado offers a 20% refundable tax credit on qualified in-state production expenses for all production types including commercials. As of 2026, Colorado eliminated withholding requirements; applicants now receive 1099 documentation, improving cash flow timing. Qualified expenditures include wages, equipment rentals, location fees, and post-production services. Colorado requires pre-certification before principal photography and maintains annual funding caps. Colorado appeals beyond incentives: dramatic natural scenery for action films, documentaries, and outdoor-focused productions. Mountain locations, urban Denver settings, and diverse terrain provide filming flexibility. Production costs are substantially lower than California/New York, making the state practical even at moderate incentive rates. The state has invested in soundstage facilities and equipment rental infrastructure in Denver. For productions balancing incentive value, reasonable costs, and striking natural landscapes, Colorado offers solid returns. Commercial productions are explicitly eligible, making it practical for branded content.
